Gary Edward Firth

March 9, 1940 - June 20, 2012

Gary was born in London, Ontario to Harold Firth and Doris Legg, brother of Nancy Thornham (David).  Married Eleanor Brayford, February 2, 1963.  Father of Paul (Lynda), Jim (Samantha) and Jayne (Ralph).  Grandchildren Eileen, Kathleen, Natalie and Ronald.
The family lived in London until 1952, then moved to Brampton where Gary attended McHugh Public School and Brampton High School.  After high school Gary started to apprentice as a mechanic at Flower Town Motors, Brampton and completed his apprenticeship at Fred Maveal Motors in Georgetown.  Gary worked as a mechanic at McLeave Truck Sales until 1970.
In 1970 Gary and his young family moved to the lower mainland of British Columbia and returned to Ontario in 1974.  Upon their return, they settled in Grand Valley and Gary worked as a mechanic for McLeave Truck Sales, Broadway Ford, Orangeville and the Town of Caledon.  Gary was the first mechanic at the new Town of Caledon in 1976.  Gary retired from the Town of Caledon in 2000 as Fleet manager, after 24 years of service.
Gary and Eleanor retired to Meaford in 2007.
Family and friends are welcome at the Doney Funeral Home, Shelburne on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral service in the funeral home chapel on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.  A further reception will be held at the Clubhouse at Maple Meadow Homes, Meaford on Tuesday, June 26th from 1:30 to 4:00.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Gary's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 163 8th St. E., Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 1K9.
